Gujarat, India: Prof. Dr. Ahmed A. Elgamel led Sudan’s official delegation to the 8th Annual Conference of the International Association of Police Academies (INTERPA), hosted by Gujarat Forensic Sciences University (GFSU) in India from 11–13 February 2019. The conference brought together 90 representatives from police education and training institutions across 38 countries, reinforcing INTERPA’s role as a global platform for cooperation in modern policing, forensic training, and institutional development.

The 2019 conference focused on the theme “Cyber Security and the Fight against Cyber Crime,” reflecting the growing international priority placed on strengthening institutional readiness for digital threats. Discussions throughout the conference addressed a wide range of emerging issues in policing and forensic sciences, including crime scene investigation standards, digital evidence collection and integrity, modern techniques for crime prevention, and approaches to managing harmful and misleading information circulating through social media networks.

A strong academic component complemented the conference’s executive sessions, with twenty scientific papers presented by participants from the Czech Republic, India, Qatar, Palestine, Sudan, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam. The research presentations and expert exchanges underlined the essential need to modernize police education frameworks in line with the evolving nature of cybercrime, digital evidence, and cross-border criminal threats.

Prof. Dr. Elgamel played an active leadership role during the event, chairing several executive sessions and contributing to high-level institutional discussions among INTERPA member states. In a significant outcome for Sudan’s international engagement, Sudan was elected as a Vice President of INTERPA, affirming the country’s standing and contribution within the international police education community.

The conference also concluded with key organizational decisions, including the unanimous re-election of the President of INTERPA, and the selection of Vice Presidents from Belarus, Sudan, and Saudi Arabia. Additionally, new Executive Board members were elected representing India, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Qatar, and Macedonia, reflecting broader geographical representation within the association.

Further expanding the organization’s global footprint, the conference approved the membership application of the Czech Technical University (Czechia). With this new addition, INTERPA’s network grew to 73 institutions across 57 countries, strengthening international coordination on training, professional standards, and future-focused policing education.
