Khartoum, Sudan: The Young Leadership Development Programme (YLDP) – Sudan concluded its first exceptional internationally certified training programme in Protocol Management, marking a key milestone in advancing youth capacity-building in Sudan within the fields of international relations, official protocol, and professional conduct.
The two-week training programme took place from 16 to 26 August, targeting participants from the sixth cohort of YLDP alongside a selected number of programme affiliates. The training was delivered under the supervision of H.E. Mr. Atef Mohamed Abdelrahman, former Director of State Protocol, who led the sessions and guided participants through applied protocol methodology and state ceremony practice.
The closing ceremony was attended by senior programme leadership and distinguished figures, including Ambassador Saeed Zaki, Lieutenant General Prof. Dr. Ahmed Elgamel, the current Chair of the Higher Advisory Committee of YLDP Sudan, and Dr. Roaa Ali Yousif, Chairperson of the programme.
Speaking on the significance of the training, Dr. Roaa Ali Yousif expressed pride in the programme’s success, emphasizing its strong intellectual and professional value for emerging youth leaders:
Throughout the programme, participants were introduced to a comprehensive range of protocol and ceremonial themes, starting from the principles of precedence and official hosting, to the planning and execution of VIP visits, flag protocol, the national anthem, professional etiquette, and the standards of formal courtesy and representation. The sessions also covered key aspects of presidential and parliamentary protocol, offering participants a rare insight into state-level ceremonial systems.
At the conclusion of the course, participants were awarded an internationally accredited certificate in protocol, issued through a recognized certification pathway in the United Kingdom. The certification reflects the programme’s commitment to ensuring that training outcomes meet international benchmarks and provide youth leaders with qualifications that are relevant to modern professional environments.
In many contexts, a Certified Protocol Officer represents a highly prepared and trusted individual equipped with professional skills in protocol, leadership, communication, and formal engagement. Through this programme, YLDP Sudan continues to expand the practical readiness of its participants – strengthening the capabilities of youth leaders to contribute effectively to institutional environments and public representation roles.
Participants expressed strong appreciation for the programme’s initiative in bringing such specialized training to Sudan – particularly as it provides professional knowledge rarely accessible through traditional academic pathways. The programme leadership also extended its gratitude to the former Director of State Protocol for his valued contribution in delivering and supporting the success of the training initiative – considered the first internationally certified protocol programme of its kind in Sudan.
